My Involvement with Hospital Radio…
I currently present the Sunday Supplement. I joined Bridge in January 2003 as Request Collector/Production Assistant for Robin Evans on the Tuesday Request Show. After several months doing this and managing to survive Robin's bizarre broadcasting style of doing the show in his socks (he was wearing other clothes as well I hasten to add!) I also co-presented the show for a while. In August 2003, I started presenting the Saturday Request Show and after 3 years and 154 shows, I moved from Saturday nights to Sunday afternoons. During 2005, I was part of the RSL group - set up as part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations - which successfully applied for a Restricted Service Licence and helped put on air a week of programming which was available to the whole of Dundee. In September 2005, I was elected onto the management committee, as Fundraiser, which means I am responsible for coming up with ways of raising funds for the running and maintenance of the station.
First music bought
I'm not sure but I think it was 'The Birdie Song' by The Tweets. I was only about five or six and was with my gran at the time - well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
Five fascinating facts about me
1) Matthew "Stars in their Eyes" Kelly, walked past me in a corridor whilst I was a student in Southampton. (He didn't even ask for my autograph!)
2) I have never travelled outside of Europe.
3) My brother was the guy with the cheesy grin on the "Independent Access Scaffolding" awnings scattered around Dundee. (Other scaffolding companies are available!)
4) I'm often mistaken for nobody famous.
5) I "borrowed" this idea from another radio station's web site
What does Hospital radio mean to you?
Helping to make the patient's stay in hospital as enjoyable as possible. The fact that a patient will choose to listen to us rather than watch the telly or listen to another radio station gives me a feeling of satisfaction. Also working alongside and learning from others who have been here far longer and have a wealth of experience and knowledge is great.
Ambitions.
To present my show to the best of my abilities and hopefully make someone's stay in hospital a wee bit more enjoyable. Also in some small way help to make Bridge FM a station to be proud of and one of the best hospital radio stations in Scotland, if not the UK!
Two quotes I find funny, for no obvious reason
"There is no off position on the genius switch."
"Be suspicious of any doctor who tries to take your temperature with his finger."
